Norma Elia Cantú is an influential Chicana author and activist who has written works of fiction and poetry primarily focusing on the experience of Latin@s on the U.S-Mexican border. Her novel Canícula: Snapshots of a Girlhood en la Frontera, which she describes as an "fictional autoethnobiography", was awarded the 1995 Premio Aztlán.
She will be reading excerpts from Canícula, as well as discussing its major themes, on September 26th at noon in Aquia 346. Reading and discussion of the novel will be read in both English and Spanish. The event is free and open to the public.
