Professor Jo-Marie Burt named new director of Latin American Studies.

Jo-Marie Burt, Associate Professor of Political Science in the Department of Public and International Affairs, was recently named director of Latin American Studies. Dr. Burt's research focuses on state violence, human rights, and transitional justice in Latin America, with a special focus on Peru. Dr. Burt has lectured widely on Latin American Politics in universities across the United States, Europe and Latin America. In 2010 she was the "Alberto Flores Galindo" Visiting Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, and in 2002-3 she was an investigator for the Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission. She has received numerous grants and awards, most recently from The Open Society Foundation, the Latin American Studies Association Other Americas Award, and the Fulbright Foundation.
