Greet named president of the Association for Latin American Art

The study of Latin American art history is a relatively new field, one that has grown steadily over several decades. Growing along with it has been the Association for Latin American Art (ALAA), a scholarly organization that, beginning in February, 2017, is led by its new president, Mason’s own Michele Greet.

An associate professor in the Department of History and Art History, Greet specializes in twentieth century Andean art, as well as Latin American artists in Europe. She has been a long-time member of the ALAA, taking on progressively larger roles in recent years. Greet says she appreciates the ALAA’s ability to create a research space where scholars from around the world can work on books, articles and exhibits, but she notes that the people involved in the organization are her favorite part. She adds that she has found the ALAA to be a “very supportive group” through several different phases of her career.

Affiliated with the College Art Association since 1997, the ALAA membership is mostly made up of scholars from U.S. colleges and universities, museums and foundations, and has a growing international reach as well. Greet was previously serving as ALAA’s vice president and began her three year term as president at the organization’s annual conference in February.

Congratulations, Dr. Greet and best of luck in your term as president!
