Afro-Cuban dance

Jim Lepore is a professor in the School of Dance at George Mason University.  He teaches courses in modern dance (technique, dance composition, somatic awareness) and African diasporic dances of the Caribbean (Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latin Dance). Since his first trip to Cuba in 1994 to study dance, he has had an abiding interest in the research and dissemination of Afro-Cuban forms. He has sponsored Cuban artists working in the U.S., and directed numerous study abroad programs for U.S. students on that island.

Locally, Jim has performed traditional Afro-Cuban dance with numerous ensembles, including Ashe Moyuba, Havana Select, and Alafia.
