The Department of Global and Community Health Seminar Series: The Chronic Disease Challenge in the Americas

Jon Kim Andrus, M.D., is the Deputy Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Regional Office of the World Bank Organization (WHO) for the Americas.  Dr. Andrus will address several important chronic disease related issues including:  the changing demographics, the disease burden, existing social determinants of health and chronic disease and the estimates of future economic impact.  

In addition, Dr. Andrus will outline some immediate actions that can be taken and what role PAHO is playing in confronting the emerging disease burden.  An all of society approach, that includes key actors outside traditional health sector, will be absolutely essential.
