Latin American Studies Director Dr. Jo-Marie Burt was quoted in a CNN International article examining the impact of the guilty verdict against former Guatemalan dictator jose Efrain Rios Mont, which was handed down one year ago, on May 10, 2013. The verdict was overturned on a technicality just ten days later. Dr. Burt was an international observer to the Rios Montt trial for the Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI) and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), and she as a Senior Fellow at the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA), she led a week-long delegation of Latin American judges and prosecutors to observe the trial. __________________________________________________________________________________________________
